We have the lovely Adele Griffin in our blog today, and I am lucky enough to ask her a few questions about what she does when she's not writing, and how she prepares for Christmas. And oh, we present to you, the Gingerbread House that Adele made!
Adele Griffin has penned quite a few novels, most of which are widely known and in the Young Adult genre, like The Julian Game, Vampire Island and Picture the Dead, which was released May 1st of this year.
Adele's new book, Tighter, will be released May 1st 2011.
--------
How do you prepare for Christmas?
It's different now that I'm the Mom of a three-year-old girl. So Christmas used to be grown-up with a fancy dinner and wine glasses -- and now it's all about corny Jingle Bell Rock songs and "Where does Frosty live in the summer?" and "Can Elmo help Santa with the toys?" A lot more squealing, but no more fancy.
As an author/writer, are you doing something special this Christmas?
My brother Robert is getting married, and my new sister-in-law Christine is planning this extremely fun-for-everyone, beautiful holiday wedding down in Atlanta where they live. My daughter gets to be a "snowflake girl." It's going to be very winter wonderland, but southern style. We are all jumping up and down in giddy excitement. But I have no author duties-- I don't even have to make a toast.
Do you have a tradition you celebrate which you think is special or unique in your family or place?
My dad was in the Army so we moved a lot when I was little, often into pre-furnished "quarters" so we never had a sense of "this is our home, that's our holiday wreath and ornaments and yadda yadda" and the anti-tradition has continued. As a family, we always mix it up-- we might have Christmas at this house or that one, or invite those friends or be guests-- doesn't matter .... We're a movable feast of multiple parts.

You mentioned about the different Christmas preparations that you have now that you have a young daughter. I have a younger brother, and I have to admit, I'm not looking forward to the days when Santa no longer exists, although I know that Christmas will still be just as fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the interview and the giveaway!

Having a member of the family in the services definitely changes the southern family Christmas tradition for our family. We're just happy my baby brother is able to be home to celebrate with us this year.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing you holiday memories, Adele. I can't wait to read Tighter, I'm sure it's going to be awesome. Have a very Merry Christmas.
