STONE COLD TOUCH Synopsis:

Every touch has its price

Layla Shaw is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life—no easy task for a seventeen-year-old who’s pretty sure things can’t get worse. Her impossibly gorgeous best friend, Zayne, is forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.

But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden. Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever. She’s finally getting what she always wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up, the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay…

"Constantly entertaining...the narrative sizzles with as much tension as romance."

WHITE HOT KISS!

White Hot Kiss

ABOUT WHITE HOT KISS:

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

ARC Review: White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout + Giveaway!

If I were to describe this book using just a word, it's going to be: Roth.
Which is pretty much synonymous to the word HOT.
Scorching hot.

Summary:

Layla sees souls and tags demons. It's the only thing she can do to stop herself from thinking too much about how she's unwanted, not accepted and not really either of the two species she's from: Warden and Demon. The Wardens, shifters with pure souls who turn into Gargoyles, keep the human world safe and the Demons do a little mischief to keep the balance of the world between Good and Evil. That is, until Layla finds herself being hunted by creatures from Hell with a very powerful demon as her protector. Hell wants her for a reason, but her family, The Wardens, aren't telling her anything. Why is a scorching hot demon helping her and why is her being a Half Demon Half Warden suddenly very important?

I had issues with Layla. Admittedly, I didn't like her at the start. She's the sort of girl that I do not like, the type who cries easily, whiny and demanding, who pities herself all day long and it took a while for me to warm up to her. She's not the typical kick-ass girl I see in most of Jennifer Armentrout's novels, she's that girl who's always sad and lost. Layla earned my sympathy at one point with the struggles she was facing and the trials she had to go through, trying to show the world that she's good when the rest of it thinks she's nothing but evil. I came to like her when she showed signs that she's changing for the better, slowly growing a backbone, and the gradual snark and fierceness she showed brought to life her character.

I can give you a pretty long list why I love Roth from the bottom of my very girly and all too romantic, giggly heart. He makes me swoon with the mere mention of his name. He's the perfect representation of all that is naughty and not so nice in a Demon. Every single word that comes out of his mouth was designed to make a girl do very, very bad things. What I liked about him is that beneath all that haughty, playful persona lies something more. He doesn't claim to be someone he's not, and he's not lying when he said he's not really nice. But beneath it all is a heart, though tainted, that has the capacity to feel. And who says demons cannot fall in love?

This is also one of those times where I totally feel nothing for the other love interest. Zayne was automatically typecasted as the older brother in my book. He can't be anyone else. He's too good, and that goodness pales in comparison compared to Roth's deviousness. He is, however, swoon worthy in his own right.

Also, who wants to own a pet like Bambi? Or Fury, Nitro and Thor?

When I first read the plot, I find it intriguing how gargoyles, demons and angels can mix in a novel, and oddly enough, Jennifer Armentrout made it work. It was, admittedly, a very unusual combination, but the way Jennifer Armentrout spins such a tale made it sound so epic and believable. Zombies? Seeker demons? Giant snakes? It's fascinating how she was able to bring to life such a world without even sounding boring or preachy as it also touches base with words like free will, what is good and what is evil.

Jennifer Armentrout brings the HOT in White Hot Kiss. She has this uncanny ability to write such breath taking, heart racing scenes that you gradually get addicted to as you read. Entertaining, fascinating and over all a thrill of a read. To be able to craft such lively characters and a world filled with secrets and intrigue... where does she get inspiration to write stories like this? It's not just all about the sexual tension between Roth and Layla, it's about a girl's struggle to accept herself for who and what she is, and to be able to tough it out and see through what it's like to be in between. It's about seeing people for more than what they are and what they look like. Amidst the heart stopping action scenes, twisty developments and unexpected surprises left and right, there's that parting kick in the gut moments that just made the story all the more loveable. I was so engrossed in the novel that I almost ripped out the last few pages, hoping that there's more for me to read. Can I please have the sequel now?

GIVEAWAY TIME!!!

My rating:

Content (plot, story flow, character):
For Roth, I will give all the butterflies he wants.

There is a need to mention Layla's awesome friends, Stacey and Sam. I am also so very intrigued with how their relationship will develop! Stacey may be a little too naughty for me, but she's a good friend. Sam was too cute for words!

Stunning: Worthy of a Goddess' Praise!

EXCERPT:

Moving lightning fast, Dez shifted and I was suddenly underneath him. His arms were on either side of my head, caging me in. Our bodies didn’t touch, but I felt him to the tips of my toes anyway.

The teasing grin disappeared when I dragged in a deep breath and my chest brushed his. Everything changed in an instant. The playful mood faded, replaced by primal heaviness. Our gazes collided and locked. Neither of us moved. His closeness sent a series of shivers skittering across my skin and made it hard to take slow, even breaths. My body tensed when his gaze dropped to my mouth.

He tilted his head to the side. “I… I honestly have no idea what we were talking about.”

“Good. Neither do I.”

He shifted his weight onto one arm, bring him closer. “Have you enjoyed your trip so far?”

“Yes.” I felt as if I couldn’t get enough air into my lungs.

“Good.” He lowered his head. His breath was minty as it moved across my cheek and then my lips. “I’m glad.”

I wasn’t really following the conversation and I wasn’t sure that he was fully aware of what was coming out of his mouth. I searched my hazy brain for something to say and wet my lips. I-

The sound that came out of Dez’s chest rumbled through me. A stuttered heartbeat passed and then his lips were on mine. There was nothing slow about this kiss. It scorched my skin and caused my body to stretch tight like a bowstring. The kiss deepened, spinning my senses. I shuddered when his hand curved over my shoulder and drifted down to my waist, his long fingers spreading out under the hem of my shirt, grazing the bare skin of my stomach.

I gasped, floored by the raw sensations pounding through my blood. My skin felt as if I was about to phase. Maybe I was.

“Jasmine,” he whispered, the word falling against my lips, and then his body was pressing mine into the mattress, heavy, sweet and hard.

-----

In a sizzling prequel novella to her new series The Dark Elements, #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout draws readers into the extraordinary, irresistible world of Wardens and demons.

Dez wasn't just Jasmine's crush. A gargoyle Warden like Jas, he helped her come to terms with her destiny—fending off demons and maintaining the balance between good and evil. He was her everything…right until the moment he disappeared without a trace. It didn't help that Jas's father had just announced that she and Dez would one day be mated. Hard not to take that personally.
And now he's back, three years older, ten times hotter, ready to pick up exactly where they left off. But Jas isn't taking that risk again. Dez has seven days to meet all her conditions and earn back her trust. Seven days filled with terrifying danger and sweet temptation. Seven days to win her heart—or shatter it all over again…

ARC Review: Cursed by Jennifer L. Armentrout

What if you literally have the power over life and death in your hands? In Jennifer L. Armentrout's new book, having this much power proves to be difficult for one girl. A freak of nature, a monster, a time bomb. Ember had a lot of problems to deal with because of her "curse".

Title: Cursed by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Pages: 288

Summary:

Dying sucks-- and high school senior Ember McWilliams knows firsthand. After a fatal car accident, her gifted little sister brought her back. Now anything Ember touches dies. And that, well, really blows.

Ember operates on a no-touch policy with all living things--including boys. When Hayden Cromwell shows up, quoting Oscar Wilde and claiming her curse is a gift, she thinks he's a crazed cutie. But when he tells her he can help control it, she's more than interested. There's just one catch: Ember has to trust Hayden's adopted father, a man she's sure has sinister reasons for collecting children whose abilities even weird her out.

However, she's willing to do anything to hold her sister's hand again. And hell, she'd also like to be able to kiss Hayden. Who wouldn't? But when Ember learns the accident that turned her into a freak may not have been an accident at all, she's not sure who to trust. Someone wanted her dead, and the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she is to losing not only her heart, but her life. For real this time.

It felt a little like X-Men, except Ember's powers were volatile and deadly in the truest sense of the word. She was supposed to be dead, but when her sister brought her back to life, Ember gained an ability that isolated her from the rest of her peers. She cannot touch anyone, and that means boys and dating are out of the question. Hiding scars and staying away from people ended up with her being labeled like a freak, and she felt like one. Then someone took her sister, taking Ember with them and opening her world into that of people who had the same ability as her. But their motivations are suspicious, and Ember will be sent away if she doesn't follow the rules. As if that wasn't enough, someone wants her dead again and this time, they might succeed.

In a sense, Ember was isolated in a world of her own, her ability to kill with a single touch puts everyone around her at a great risk. It was enough reason to make me feel sympathetic of her. What I didn't really like was how Ember felt overly dramatic. It's either she cries and spends her time convincing herself that she's a monster, or she gets angry that she can't do what she wants. She always seems like a brat to me during those times and it gets harder to like her.

On the other hand, what made up for Ember's erratic character is the story. It's heart breaking to see Ember struggle through her life, feeling unwanted, only able to stay by her sister's side because she was special and being judged for looking so different. At one point it felt like everyone was treating her unfairly, and instead of helping her come into terms with her power, they were treating her as someone so undesirable. At that point I was confused with what Hayden's father wants to do with Ember. It was hard to decide if he really was an enemy or someone to be trusted.

Though the plot is somewhat predictable and the story similar to other books I've read before, I liked this for making me respond to the characters a lot, whether with negative or positive reactions for what they do. Despite possessing powers that is supposed to make them feel inhuman to others, at least the emotions placed on the characters were enough to make the readers responsive to these characters, giving them a feel that despite the powers they possess, they're still human after all. The romance between Ember and Hayden felt so confusing and unstable at times but it's one of the bright spots readers will look forward to especially with the state of Ember's life in this book. There is no love triangle, mind you, and even though Hayden can behave as irritatingly as Ember, he's a nice boy that gives the story more appeal.

Overall, Cursed is a different, okay read for me. It has a whole new different feel than the rest of Jennifer L. Armentrout's stories, and even though I'm a bit skeptical on how the story will progress as it sounds like there's a possibility of this being a part of a series, it's still an enjoyable start to something new from a favorite author of mine. I think Jennifer Armentrout perfected writing a hot tempered, spunky heroine as evident with Ember and her other female leads, and that makes Cursed interesting. Let's see if the good start in Cursed paves an awesome way to a continuation of the story, if this is not a stand alone book. I for one would love to find out as well.

My rating

Content (plot, story flow, character):
If you want to read about emotional, catty characters, Cursed has a ton of them, and they're fun to read. I loved Ember's younger sister, who is just adorable, even with her frightening powers.
.5
Okay: Liked, but The Goddess demands more!

ARC Review: Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout

If anyone has told me that Half-Blood was this good, I would've read it the moment the ARC dropped on my mailbox.

Because I am hooked, and right now I will do anything to get my hands on the second book, Pure!

Title: Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Pages: 281
Release Date: October 18th 2011
Published by: Spencer Hill Press

Buy: Amazon | Book Depository

Summary (from Goodreads):

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

Alex is a Half-Blood, born from a Pure mother and a mortal man. She has been on the run with her only parent until the Daimons caught them in Miami, and along with her mother's death, Alex's life slowly unraveled before her. Suddenly she's back on Covenant grounds, trying her best to become a Sentinel. And a Pure, Aiden St. Delphi is there to help her become one. Alex likes Aiden, but Pures and Half-Bloods can never be. As Alex navigates her world, she discovers the truth about her mother, and a lot of things about herself and about a Prophecy that will change her life forever.

I will admit it, it was hard to like Alex at first. It took me around 90 pages before I started to see her good points. My sympathy for her was overflowing but it was hard to feel pity. She annoyed me so much for her brashness and impulsive behavior and she rarely heeds anyone's plea and advice that she makes a fool out of herself countless of times. But I gradually came to like her as I understand her reasons for doing what she does. A heroine with such a strong personality is hard to come by, but I appreciated her snarky comebacks and sarcastic comments as I read about her. She's been through a lot and for Alex, she could care less about the rules as long as she's doing the right thing.

Half-Blood is one of the rare novels where I loved both male leads. Usually in a love triangle I tend to immediately side with one person, but both Seth and Aiden can catch the readers attention for their good points. It's hard to choose, and I will be going with the minority, but as of page 166, I am on Team Seth. Let me explain.

Seth is the Appollyon, and as such, he has much power than Half-Bloods, maybe even some of the Pures can have. He controls all four elements and the fifth one, Akasha. At first he comes off as stoic and uncaring, but he has such an allure, maybe because he is dangerous? Bad boys have a distinct appeal, especially the powerful ones.

Seth and Alex's moment made me laugh so much. I don't know if they just dislike each other but as two halves of a whole they must have some sort of awareness or even a connection to each other. Thinly veiled desire masked by insults? It's always a delight to see their interactions, even if Seth is unstable. But isn't Alex just like that too? Her behavior fits. I take delight in all of their bickering and their sarcastic jibes at each other, and I think if given time, their relationship will bloom. I am so excited because it has so much potential!

If you think Pures are hot, then Aiden St. Delphi is scorching. He's righteous, fiercely protective and a strong character as well. There's a lot of sadness and tragedy surrounding his life even as a Pure, but it's something that made him a person like Alex can rely on. He's the type of guy who's genuinely nice, and maybe a little bit of a stickler for rules, and he tends to do the right thing most of the time, someone who thinks of others more than himself. He had to grow up fast so he didn't have much time to enjoy living his life. Wouldn't you like to fall for a guy like him?

I will try not to expect anything because it's still too early, but whichever guy Alex chooses, happiness won't be easily achieved. The idea of starcrossed lovers can play either way if Alex chooses Seth, and especially if she chooses Aiden. Ah, the course of true love never did run smooth.

I am enamored by the world of the Gods, the Pure, the Half-Bloods, everyone. I love every single moment I've spent reading about every single thing about it. The politics, the mythology behind it, the myths, the legends, the complicated world that surrounds Alex's life. It was fascinating. It's dark and dangerous and a combination of that works like a charm. In a world where Gods play, the Pures and the Half-Blood are merely pawns in a deadly game. It makes me think of how hard and cruel reality is for Alex, for Aiden and for all that is in the Covenant. Survival is what's important, and like what Alex went through, more often than not they had to cheat death and even kill the ones they love. It's a brutal, harsh world.

How do you defy the Gods? Let the Defender of Man, Alexandria, show you. Half-Blood is a welcome addition to the captivating world of Gods and Mortals, Half-Bloods and Pures. It's a matter of life and death. It's one girl's fight to take control of her destiny. It was enough for the mythology side of the novel to enchant me, but it was the healthy cast of vibrant characters, heart stopping action, toe-curling romance and sexy, red-hot moments that got me addicted. It's intense. It's wonderful. It's awesome!

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, outhouses, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring. Until I spotted my hot neighbor with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marked me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and the mark he left on me has me lit up like Las Vegas strip to the bad guys. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades. If I don't kill him first, that is.

And then things got really bad…

Intrigued? I bet you are! Now, add this wonderful widget to your blog and count down the days with me before the release! (Still 80 + days, that's a long wait!)

I don't know about you guys, but I'll definitely be waiting for this book to be released! It sounds awesome! What do you think? Share your thoughts about the blurb and the cover!

[The Teen Book Scene Blog Tour] Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout Into the Past Guest Post

Hey guys!

I'm back with another tour post for all of you! It's my turn to post something for The Half-Blood tour and we have Jennifer over in the blog to tell the books she was reading back then.

What I was reading? And What I wish I was reading.

Age 5
What I was reading? I have no idea what I was reading at age 5, but I’m sure it involves a lot of pictures and rhyming phrases.
What I wish I was reading? Well, I don’t know about me but I know my parents wish Go the F**K to Sleep was available then.

Age 11
What I was reading? Goosebumps and Fear Street.
What I wish I was reading? Wouldn’t change a thing. Those books were awesome.

Age 16
What I was reading? Over the top historical romances. I went through this phase with historical. I swear to you I had over 200 books.
What I wish I was reading? I wish I was 16 when Twilight or the Mortal Instruments Series came out. It would be pretty cool to get caught up in the fandom at the age.

Age 20
What I was reading? College textbooks and reading requirements. Yawn.
What I wish I was reading? Anything other than what I was reading.

Thank you for having me!

Half-Blood (Covenant #1)

Don't forget to buy a copy of Half-Blood when it comes out!

I wish I was reading the Vampire Academy series, Immortals series, Evernight series and House of Night series back when they first came out. I think I'm out in the loop most of the time because these books/series are popular and I haven't read them at all! *hangs head in shame*
