Waiting on Wednesday (98) When We Wake + Stung

I wasn't able to get a lot of things (or reading) done this weekend even if I had a 4 day holiday, but hey! It's also Friday. :)

Here's our picks for this week. And yep, they're both awesome.

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine

Summary (from Goodreads):

My name is Tegan Oglietti, and on the last day of my first lifetime, I was so, so happy.

Sixteen-year-old Tegan is just like every other girl living in 2027—she’s happiest when playing the guitar, she’s falling in love for the first time, and she’s joining her friends to protest the wrongs of the world: environmental collapse, social discrimination, and political injustice.

But on what should have been the best day of Tegan’s life, she dies—and wakes up a hundred years in the future, locked in a government facility with no idea what happened.

Tegan is the first government guinea pig to be cryonically frozen and successfully revived, which makes her an instant celebrity—even though all she wants to do is try to rebuild some semblance of a normal life. But the future isn’t all she hoped it would be, and when appalling secrets come to light, Tegan must make a choice: Does she keep her head down and survive, or fight for a better future?

Why I'm waiting for When We Wake:

I'm a big Karen Healey fan (I loved The Shattering!) and when I found out she's got a new novel coming out, I just couldn't wait! It somehow reminds me a little of A Long, Long, Sleep but this is more science fiction / dystopia inclined than contemporary so I'm really excited. Cryonically frozen and a hundred years into the future? Sounds like a good mix for a science fiction masterpiece.

Title: Stung by Bethany Wiggins
Release Date: April 2nd 2013
Published by: Walker Childrens

Summary (from Goodreads):

Government attempts to save endangered bees by genetic modification causes their sting to induce deadly, flu-like symptoms in humans. A vaccine created in response changes children into ferocious, killer beasts. The uninfected have built a wall to keep the beasts out, & a girl has awakened on the wrong side.

Why I'm waiting for Stung:

Yes. Yes. Yes! So this book looks like it'll bring a new (and deadlier) meaning to "killer bees". I'm afraid of bees, and combine that with killer children? Yep, we got a hair raising novel right here. I seriously want to read this today.
