Anyway, for this week, we are showcasing three amazing books! Check them out below, and you might want to add them in your to-read list later :)
Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine
Title: Mist by Kathryn James
Release Date: September 1st 2011
Published by: Hodder Children's Books
Summary (from Goodreads):
Midnight: a mist-haunted wood with a bad reputation. A sweet sixteen party, and 13 year old Nell is trying to keep her sister, spoilt birthday-girl Gwen, out of trouble. No chance. Trouble finds Gwen and drags her through the mist. Only Nell guesses who’s behind the kidnap - the boy she hoped was her friend, the cute but mysterious Evan River.
All those fairy stories Nell’s grandmother told her about girls being stolen by fairy folk are true. The Elven are beautiful as starlight, fierce as wolves, and cold as ice. And they want their world back. The fight has been raging for centuries. Nell’s grandmother should know, she’s a Watcher, the ones responsible for imprisoning the Elven in isolated iron-bound camps in Siberia. Only Evan, his fanatical older brother Fen, and a handful of Elven children are still free.
Fen, hellbent on revenge, keeps Gwen in their wolf-guarded stronghold deep in the mist. The price for her safe return? The release of all the Elven – but the Watchers will never agree. Only Nell can save Gwen.
Time is twisted through the mist: if Nell stops longer than a night and day, a hundred years will hit her as soon as she returns and she’ll be old and withered before she’s even lived. The clock is ticking.
Title: The Death Catchers by Jennifer Anne Kogler
Release Date: August 16th 2011
Published by: Walker Books for Young Readers
Summary (from Goodreads):
On her fourteenth Halloween, Lizzy Mortimer sees her first death-specter.
Confused at first, Lizzy soon learns from her grandmother Bizzy that as Death Catchers, they must prevent fate from taking its course when an unjust death is planned—a mission that has been passed down from their ancestor, Morgan le Fay. Only, Lizzy doesn't expect one of her first cases to land her in the middle of a feud older than time between Morgan le Fay and her sister Vivienne le Mort. Vivienne hopes to hasten the end of the world by preventing Lizzy from saving King Arthur's last descendant—humanity's greatest hope for survival. It's up to Lizzy, as Morgan's earthly advocate, to outwit fate before it's too late.
With its unique spin on Arthurian legend, this fresh, smartly written story will stand out in the paranormal genre.
Title: Behind the Gates (Tomorrow Girls #1) by Eva Gray
Release Date: May 1st 2011
Published by: Scholastic Paperbacks
Summary (from Goodreads):
In a terrifying future world, four girls must depend on each other if they want to survive.
Louisa is nervous about being sent away to a boarding school -- but she’s excited, too. And she has her best friend, Maddie, to keep her company. The girls have to pretend to be twin sisters, which Louisa thinks just adds to the adventure!
Country Manor School isn’t all excitement, though. Louisa isn’t sure how she feels about her new roommates: athletic but snobby Rosie and everything’s-a-conspiracy Evelyn. Even Maddie seems different away from home, quiet and worried all the time.
Still, Louisa loves CMS -- the survival skills classes, the fresh air. She doesn’t even miss not having a TV, or the internet, or any contact with home. It’s for their own safety, after all.
Or is it?

Why I'm waiting for Mist:
The plot sounds a bit like the Iron Fey series, though this time its about Elvens and wolves. I think this is more of a middle grade book? But still, the summary is very very interesting. And that is a gorgeous cover. I had to admit I was drawn to the book because of it, the colors are just amazing. Nell reminds me a lot of Meghan, only she's thirteen. :)
Why I'm waiting for The Death Catchers:
One word: unique. Someone who prevents untimely deaths? A retelling of the legend of King Arthur? Now that is something I really would look forward to reading. I adored Meg Cabot's Avalon High, and I'm excited to read another book which is based on the Arthurian Legend, with a very paranormal twist, of course.
Why I'm waiting for Behind the Gates:
There's something about the mystery and the words "survival class" that made my ears perk up and want to read this book. Survival class and girls, teenage girls, don't really go well with each other, so my interest is piqued. Plus the girls in this book reminds me a bit of the girls in Kristi Cook's Haven, so this might be good. :)
Hadn't heard of Behind the Gates before but it does sound good! The Mist cover is pretty and I like the sound of the battle with the Elven.
ReplyDeleteMist sounds like my type of read, I'm adding it to my list. Thanks for putting it on my radar.
