Waiting on Wednesday (113): Shipwrecked + Everything Is Fine (and Other Lies I Tell Myself)

Hello lovely readers!

We're currently playing catch up with our TBR pile, the long weekend hasn't helped us much in terms of reading but we're slowly but surely catching up! Check out our picks this week:

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine

Summary (from Goodreads):

This is the first book in a major new series.
"Lost" meets "Gossip Girl".

I jump at the sound of a whispered voice over my shoulder. But when I turn round all I see is sand, and the towering, green wall of the rainforest. I guess it must have been the breeze, but I can't help shivering. I have the weirdest feeling that we're being watched.

Grace Delaney and her fellow dance students are en route to perform on a South Pacific cruise-ship when a freak storm hits and they find themselves stranded on a deserted island. With the tropical heat rising, passions and tensions swell to breaking point. And the island itself is quietly steaming with a terrible secret...

Why I'm waiting for Shipwrecked:

I absolutely loved Dear Dylan! Though I've yet to read Finding Cherokee Brown, Siobhan's new book just sounds so intriguing. I have no idea what a "Lost meets Gossip Girl" book will be like, so that part of the summary just lured me in to find out more about this book. Who is this "someone" with them? A serial killer? I'm so curious!

Summary (from Goodreads):

Things haven't been going so well for fifteen-year-old Esther Armstrong. With her brother Max - her closest ally - absent, she's forced to face everything alone, not least her parents' heated arguments. As the summer holidays stretch endlessly ahead, she's desperate for something, anything, to divert her attention.

Then she finds some letters hidden in the walls of her family home, sent by a soldier to his sweetheart from the trenches of WWI. Esther is consumed by the mystery of these lovers - not very much older than herself - and what became of them. Perhaps in piecing together the jigsaw of someone else's life, Esther can work out how to reassemble her own, and how to make everything fine again...

This is a novel about growing up, moving on and the strength of a family.

Why I'm waiting for Everything Is Fine (and Other Lies I Tell Myself):

I just recently finished reading In the Shadow of Blackbirds, which was set in WWI. I know how terrifying that time was, so finding another story that has something important such us a love story taking place during the war, I just became so fascinated. I think I need this book now. It somehow reminds me of When Things Fall Apart, but with a WWI love story twist. Should be a worthwhile read, and I'm just so excited for this one to come out!
