Release Date: May 1st 2013
Published by: Point
Summary (from Goodreads):
Hayley is going to have the best year ever. After years of careful planning, she's ready to serve as student council president AND editor-in-chief of the newspaper. Ivy League, here she comes!
However, just before student council elections, someone creates a fake facebook profile for Hayley and starts posting inappropriate photos and incriminating updates. It must be the work of a highly skilled Photoshopper, but the attention to detail is scary. The embarrassing photos of "Hayley" in her bathing suit reveal a birthmark on her back--a birth mark Hayley has never shown in public. . . .
The situation escalates until Hayley's mother reveals some shocking information. Hayley isn't an only child: She has a twin sister who was adopted by a different family. And that's not all. Soon, Hayley discovers that her long-lost sister isn't just playing a prank--she's plotting to take over Hayley's life . . . by any means necessary.
Why I'm waiting for Identity Theft:
I think I got goosebumps when I read the last line. Wow. I think I need this book RIGHT NOW. Stealing someone's life is already bad, but what if it's being done by a twin sister you never knew existed? And why would this twin sister want to steal her other sister's life? So I'm starting to ask questions, which means I need to get my hands on this book NOW. It's one of the few YA horror books I'm looking forward to read, especially since I'm not a fan of horror at all, this sounds THAT good.

Summary (from Goodreads):
My picture is on page eighteen of Noble High's Phoenix yearbook. I am one of the Phoenix Five. You nominated me. You thought I was one of the most outstanding students in our freshman class. You were wrong.
Still, I accepted my award. I acted special. But I couldn't help wondering what it was like to be that way for real. So I broke into Ms. Silver's safe in the faculty lounge and stole all five of our journals. I'm not exposing them out of jealousy or anger. I'm doing this because I am tired of the lies. The bar is too high, and cheating is the only way to reach it. Instagrams are filtered, Facebook profiles are embellished, photos are shopped, Manti T'eo's girlfriend was a fake...is anything real anymore?
I found the answer in our journals. These are 100 percent real and 100 percent unedited. The proof is in the pages:
We're all pretenders.
Why I'm waiting for Pretenders:
Tackling what's real and what's not, the pressures of being at the top in a school that has the very best... count me in! What's the Phoenix Five? A position of power? A distinction of the best? Looks like this girl has a lot in her plate. Does she want to be the very best? Expose the school for what it really is? I can't imagine myself going to a school as strict as this book describes. I love me a good mystery YA and this book sounds like a great read for that.

Both books sound fantastic! Pretenders sounds a bit like Pretty Little Liars meets Gossip Girl and because of how much I loved both series, I'll definitely be looking into Pretenders. And Identity Thief ... Yup. Goosebumps galore.

Oh wow, I hadn't heard of either of these. Since I loved Lisi's Clique series when I was in middle school, I am excited to see what else she can do. :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of either of these titles. That first one sounds creepy/thrilling, and Harrison's is one I might pick up, just to see what's in those journals. Nice finds!
