[The Teen Book Scene blog tour] The Girl is Trouble by Kathryn Miller Haines: Word Associations

Hi everyone! So I'm starting off the blog tour for Kathryn Miller Haines historical YA fiction novel, The Girl is Trouble, which is the sequel to The Girl is Murder.

I have Iris, the main character, on the blog today and I asked her to say the first thing that comes into her mind when I say a particular word. It's actually fun and if you've read The Girl is Murder (which you should!) you'll understand her answer better.

Character Word Associations: Iris

What is the first thing that comes to mind for Iris for each word/phrase:

War: Pop
Public school: awful
Tin cans: telephone
Ration tickets: one more thing I never have enough of
Pearls: Mama
1942: now
Pop: Home
Iris: Stubborn
Beauty: movie stars
Stamps: food
Letters: Trouble
Movies: escape
Friends: Pearl
Night: danger
Deception: Mama
