Release Date: October 31st 2012
Published by: J. Taylor Publishing
Summary (from Goodreads):
What eighteen year old Mac Thorne doesn’t know will probably kill her.
In exactly eight months, five days, three hours and thirteen minutes, Mac has to choose what she’ll be for the rest of her life.
She has no choice but to pick. As a Changeling, it’s her birthright. To Mac, it’s a birthchore. Like going to school with humans, interacting with humans, and pretending to be human during the pesky daylight hours.
Once darkness descends, Mac can change into any supernatural form that exists — which makes her as happy as she can be. That is, until Winn Thomas, the biggest geek in her senior class figures out there’s more to what hides in the dark than most are willing to acknowledge.
In this first of the 19th Year Trilogy, Winn might know more about Mac than even she does, and that knowledge could end their lives, unless Mac ensures the powers-that-be have no choice but to keep him around.
Why I'm waiting for After Dark:
Because the catch phrase "Dawn conceals what the dark of night reveals" is enough to make me interested. Mac is a shape shifter who can shift into any form, which I think is really interesting, and for some reason this makes me think of Nightshade. Mac sounds like a girl who can kick serious butt.

Release Date: August 2nd 2012
Published by: Pan Macmillan Childrens
Summary (from Goodreads):
It’s 1923 and London is a whirl of jazz, dancing and parties. Violet, Daisy, Poppy and Rose Derrington are desperate to be part of it, but stuck in an enormous crumbling house in the country, with no money and no fashionable dresses, the excitement seems a lifetime away. Luckily the girls each have a plan for escaping their humdrum country life: Rose wants to be a novelist, Poppy a jazz musician and Daisy a famous film director.
Violet, however, has only one ambition: to become the perfect Debutante, so that she can go to London and catch the eye of Prince George, the most eligible bachelor in the country. But a house as big and old as Beech Grove Manor hides many secrets, and Daisy is about to uncover one so huge it could ruin all their plans - ruin everything - forever.
Why I'm waiting for The Debutantes:
Historical YA fiction? YES, please! I'm pretty sure a lot of people are obsessed with Downton Abbey right now and the period this was set in reminds me of the series (which I loved!) And I'm also sure that this is also a book about friendship and love, and I've always been a little bit curious about descriptions I read about the time & year, so I'm definitely excited for this!

I haven't head of either of these, but the cover of The Debutantes is gorgeous, and I do love historical fiction! I haven't seen Downtown Abbey, though I hear it's good. I don't watch many shows in general....
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of The Debutantes, but it looks amazing! Althought Violet kind of reminds me of Kitty from P&P based on the blurb. Great picks!

Something about The Debutantes makes me think of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women. I can't figure out what it is, maybe it's just four sisters, and one wants to be a novelist, but that's just where I went when I read the summary! Great pick, this one's going on my TBR list!
