Waiting on Wednesday (52)

It's so gloomy here in Manila. I think we're finally feeling the effects of the rainy season. If it's too dry in the States, the opposite can be said for where I am right now.

Anyway, here are our picks for this week! I couldn't resist but picking 3 books to showcase, all of them are good!

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine

Title: Faking Faith by Josie Bloss
Release Date: November 8th 2011

Summary (from Goodreads):

After a humiliating "sexting" incident involving a hot and popular senior, seventeen-yearold Dylan has become a social outcast—harassed, ignored, and estranged from her two best friends.

When Dylan discovers the blogs of homeschooled fundamentalist Christian girls, she's fascinated by their old-fashioned conversation themes, like practicing submission to one's future husband. Blogging as Faith, her devout alter ego, Dylan befriends Abigail, the group's queen bee. But growing closer to Abigail (and her intriguing older brother) forces Dylan to choose: keep living a lie or come clean and face the consequences.

Why I'm waiting for Faking Faith:

This sounds like a powerful, emotional novel, and I have not read much contemporary YA books this year, to be honest. It reminds me a little bit of The Julian Game because of the online social aspect of it, and a little bit of Jenny Downham's You Against Me because of the sexual issue involving someone older, and those two books are my favorites so I'm definitely giving this a try.

Title: Water Balloon by Audrey Vernick
Release Date: September 6th 2011
Published by: Clarion Books

Summary (from Goodreads):

A warm debut novel about friendship and first love, from a popular picture-book author.

Marley's life is as precarious as an overfull water balloon—one false move and everything will burst. Her best friends are pulling away from her, and her parents, newly separated, have decided she should spend the summer with her dad in his new house, with a job she didn't ask for and certainly doesn't want. On the upside is a cute boy who loves dogs as much as Marley does . . . but young love has lots of opportunity for humiliation and misinterpreted signals. Luckily Marley is a girl who trusts her instincts and knows the truth when she sees it, making her an immensely appealing character and her story funny, heartfelt, and emotionally true.

Why I'm waiting for Water Balloons:

This sounds like a book I'll read! Don't you just love reading a book about friendship and first loves? Because I really do! Young love has its ups and downs and Water Balloons sounds like a novel that portrays that a lot. Is this a debut YA author? Definitely looking forward to reading this!

Title: Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick by Joe Schreiber
Release Date: October 24th 2011
Published by: Houghton Mifflin Books for Children

Summary (from Goodreads):

Ferris Bueller meets La Femme Nikita in this funny, action-packed young adult novel.

It’s prom night—and Perry just wants to stick to his own plan and finally play a muchanticipated
gig with his band in the Big Apple. But when his mother makes him take Gobija Zaksauskas—their quiet, geeky Lithuanian exchange student—to the prom, he never expects that his ordinary high school guy life will soon turn on its head. Perry finds that Gobi is on a mission, and Perry has no other choice but to go along for a reckless ride through Manhattan’s concrete grid with a trained assassin in Dad’s red Jag.
Infused with capers, car chases, heists, hits, henchmen, and even a bear fight, this story mixes romance, comedy, and tragedy in a true teen coming-of-age adventure—and it’s not over until it’s “au revoir.”

Why I'm waiting for Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick:

Because it sounds so fun! I'm pretty sure this is going to be action packed since Gobija is an assassin. Car chases? Heists? And bear fights? Bring it on, please! Oh, and when I saw the words "La Femme Nikita", I was sold. I loved that show!
