So here are my two picks for this week. I don't know what to say. Haha. Except that I am reading Here Lies Bridget and it's getting good!

Title: The Night Circus by Erin MorgensternWant? Add to your Goodreads shelf!
Release Date: September 13th 2011
Published by: Doubleday
Summary (from Goodreads):
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des RĂªves, and it is only open at night.
But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.
True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.
Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.
Why I'm waiting for The Night Circus:
This book reminds me of The Prestige, Young Adult version. But of course, with a dash of romance and magic. It's pretty interesting, since I haven't read a book focusing on magicians like this. I'm mostly intrigued at the romance part, because of the description "a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands". It sounds so intense.
Title: Blood Song (Lharmell #1) by Rhiannon HartWant? Add to your Goodreads shelf!
Release Date: September 1st 2011
Published by: Random House Australia
Summary (from Goodreads):
I wanted to turn but I was held captive by the song on the wind. I’m coming, I told the voices. Please, wait for me.
When her sister becomes betrothed to a prince in a northern nation, Zeraphina’s only consolations are that her loyal animal companions are by her side – and that her burning hunger to travel north is finally being sated.
Already her black hair and pale eyes mark her out as different, but now Zeraphina must be even more careful to keep her secret safe. Craving blood is not considered normal behaviour for anyone, let alone a princess. So when the king’s advisor, Rodden, seems to know more about her condition than she does, Zeraphina is determined to find out more.
Zeraphina must be willing to sacrifice everything if she’s to uncover the truth – but what if the truth is beyond her worst nightmares?
Why I'm waiting for Blood Song:
And here I was thinking Australia just has great contemporary books. This one sounds promising, a dark fantasy / paranormal book that just caught my eye. So Zeraphina is a vampire? I'm definitely curious.

I totally featured the night circus on a wow a little while ago! I hadn't made the prestige connection but it totally fits! Can't wait to read it either!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my WOW!
You guys always choose such awesome titles that I haven't heard of but want desperately. I haven't read a book with the circus in it and I love that little aside of romance and magic that The Night Circus seems to promise. Le Cirque de Reves. Ooh. And Blood Song? Yes. It reminds me of Rae Carson's upcoming novel and Witch Song by Amber Argyle in a vague way.... and a bit of Kristin Cashore too actually. Also, she may not be a vampire :). Tessa Gratton recently wrote a great novel about blood magic :D.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
