Title: Legend by Marie Lu
Release Date: December 2011
Published by: G.P. Putnam's Sons Books for Young Readers
Summary (from Goodreads):
LEGEND takes place in 2130 A.D., in Los Angeles, Republic of America, which is at war against the other, flooded half of the continent, the so-called Colonies.
It tells the story of Day, a famous 15-year old boy criminal struggling to survive undetected in what remains of the United States, and June, the 15-year old girl prodigy hired to hunt him down. When their paths cross, the truth they uncover together will become legend.
Title: Sometimes It Happens by Lauren Barnholdt
Release Date: July 12th 2011
Published by: Simon Pulse
Summary (from Goodreads):
On the last day of her junior year, Hannah's boyfriend Ryan dumped her. Facing a summer of loneliness, Hannah turns to her best friend Ava for comfort. Ava does what BFFs do: she stays by Hannah's side...until it's time for Ava to head up to Maine for the summer. Also left behind is Ava's boyfriend, Noah, who's such a great guy he gets Hannah a job at the diner he waits tables at. Slowly, Hannah comes out of her funk thanks to Noah's good conversation and their fun times at the diner. But things get complicated when their friendship turns into attraction--and one night, into a passionate kiss. The novel opens on the first day of senior year; the day Hannah is going to see Ava, Ryan, and Noah all in one place. Over the course of the day secrets and betrayals are revealed, and alliances are broken and reformed. In the end, everyone is paired up once again, but not the way you might think...
Title: Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Release Date: September 15th 2011
Published by: Spencer Hill Press
Summary (from Goodreads):
The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi—pure-bloods—have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals—well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.
Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:
Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.
Unfortunately, she’s crushing hard on the pure-blooded Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn’t her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

Why I'm waiting for Legend:It's another lovely sounding dystopian novel, and I'm so excited for it! This has a bit of The Hunger Games vibe in it, the boy vs. girl part of the story sounds very intriguing. Looking forward to the action-packed scenes I'm sure this novel has.
And it's so cool because the book hasn't even come out yet but it already has a GAME ON FACEBOOK! Yep, you can play Legend: Dystopia on FB which Marie created herself :)
Why I'm waiting for Sometimes It Happens:
I'm a big Lauren Barnholdt fan ever since I've read her book, Two-Way Street. You can read Tin's review of TWS here. I can't seem to get enough of YA romance/contemporary books after reading so many good ones this year, so I'm definitely waiting to grab a copy of this one.
Why I'm waiting for Half-Blood:
This book is a bit reminiscent of Tera Lynn Child's Oh My Gods but in a whole new way. It's a very fresh take on stories about Gods and Goddesses, and I haven't seen anything like it on any YA novel recently, so I'm really looking forward to reading this book. I've read the teaser for Half-Blood and Alex seems like a girl who can kick ass!
So what are your WoW picks this week?

ReplyDeleteShadows of a Down East Summer: An Antique Print Mystery
ReplyDeleteBy Lea Wait
Publication date: April 1, 2011
In the summer of 1890, two young women posed for artist Winslow Homer on the coast of Maine. What happened that summer, the secrets the women kept, and the lies they told, changed their families forever. Now, more than a hundred years later, one of their descendants has been murdered, leaving to antique print dealer Maggie Summer the family papers that may finally reveal the truth. Maggie's vision of a relaxing vacation in Maine- antiquing with beau Will Brewer and visiting his Aunt Nettie- turns into a murder investigation. Maggie must discover which of the family myths are based on reality, before someone she cares about becomes the next victim. With the centennial of Homer's death in 2010, there is renewed interest in his work and in the renovation of his studio in Prouts Neck, Maine, where some of the novel's action takes place.
I love dystopian literature and hadn't heard of Legend so I'll definitely be adding it to my wish list. It sounds pretty interesting!
