Waiting on Wednesday (87): Midnight City + Eve & Adam

Hello lovely readers! What can I say? The past week has been... intense and weird, what with all the scandals that erupted and broke out. Anyway! Enough of that, here are our picks this week!

Summary (from Goodreads):

In a post-apocalyptic world controlled by alien invaders, two teens and a young girl with mysterious powers embark on a dangerous journey. What they find will change everything...

Earth has been conquered. An extraterrestrial race known as The Assembly has abducted the adult population, leaving the planet’s youth to fend for themselves. In this treacherous landscape, Holt, a bounty hunter, is transporting his prisoner Mira when they discover Zoey, a young girl with powerful abilities who could be the key to stopping The Assembly. As they make their way to the cavernous metropolis of Midnight City, the trio must contend with freedom fighters, mutants, otherworldly artifacts, pirates, feuding alien armies, and perhaps most perilous of all: Holt and Mira’s growing attraction to each other.

Why I'm waiting for Midnight City:

It's sci-fi! And it reminds me of Michael Grant's Gone series crossing over with Veronica Rossi's Under the Never Sky, while adding some extraterrestrial components on the side. Personally, I find that mix intriguing. Aliens armies and bounty hunters? Pirates? I can tell this book will have a lot of chase and action scenes. I cannot wait!

Summary (from Goodreads):

Sixteen-year-old Evening Spiker lives an affluent life in San Francisco with her mother, EmmaRose, a successful geneticist and owner of Spiker Biotech. Sure, Evening misses her father who died mysteriously, but she’s never really questioned it. Much like how she’s never stopped to think how off it is that she’s never been sick. That is, until she’s struck by a car and is exposed to extensive injuries. Injuries that seem to be healing faster than physically possible.

While recuperating in Spiker Biotech’s lush facilities, she meets Solo Plissken, a very attractive, if off-putting boy her age who spent his life at Spiker Biotech. Like Evening, he’s never questioned anything... until now. Solo drops hints to Evening that something isn’t right, and Emma-Rose may be behind it. Evening puts this out of her mind and begins her summer internship project: To simulate the creation of the perfect boy. With the help of Solo, Evening uncovers secrets so big they could change the world completely.

Why I'm waiting for Eve and Adam:

Do you need to ask, really? If that summary didn't intrigue you at the very least, then something is definitely wrong with you. This book sounds like it has a big potential of captivating A LOT of YA readers. So if Evening is Eve... is she creating a perfect... Adam? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Oh, and I love the name SOLO! It's got this wonderful sci-fi vibe, plus I have to admit my interest is piqued w/ Eve's condition and what things she discovered with Solo that can change the world. Any guesses? Secret to eternal life? I want this book now!!!

  4. Solo, that name made me giggle. Here in Norway that is a very popular soda with the taste of oranges :)

Great picks both novels, I've never heard of either one before and I'll add them both to my GR wishlist. The cover on Eve and Adam reminded me very much of Twilight. I wonder if that is a deliberate marketing strategy.
