Waiting on Wednesday (85): Magisterium & A Shimmer of Angels

I want another long weekend! I have at least 6 more reviews to write and as much as I love having content for my blog, it's a bit tiring to write reviews non-stop.

Anyway! Here are the books we are highlighting this week:

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine

Title: Magisterium by Jeff Hirsch

Summary (from Goodreads):

On one side of the Rift is a technological paradise without famine or want. On the other side is a mystery.

Sixteen-year-old Glenn Morgan has lived next to the Rift her entire life and has no idea of what might be on the other side of it. Glenn's only friend, Kevin, insists the fence holds back a world of monsters and witchcraft, but magic isn't for Glenn. She has enough problems with reality: Glenn's mother disappeared when she was six, and soon after, she lost her scientist father to his all-consuming work on the mysterious Project. Glenn buries herself in her studies and dreams about the day she can escape. But when her father's work leads to his arrest, he gives Glenn a simple metal bracelet that will send Glenn and Kevin on the run---with only one place to go.

Why I'm waiting for Magisterium:

Aside from the gorgeous cover? Walls and fences. I love the idea of it in a story about how they can eventually be breached and broken down. Magisterium is about magic and witchcraft and science and it sounds like such a unique mix. I wonder what's in the metal bracelet and what it can do? I guess I just have to read the book. It just sounds so good and mysterious and dark! I want it now!

Title: A Shimmer of Angels by Lisa M. Basso
Release Date: November 20th 2012
Published by: Month9Books, LLC
Want? Add to your Goodreads shelf!

Summary (from Goodreads):

A compelling and spirited debut from Lisa M. Basso in which sixteen-year-old Rayna Evans has spent the last three years locked away in a mental institution for seeing angels. Intent on remaining free, she ignores signs that she may be slipping into the world she has tried so hard to climb out of. But when her hallucinations begin showing up at school, can Rayna keep her job, her sanity and keep students from dying at the hand of angels she can’t admit to seeing?

Psychiatry, fantasy and real life come together in A Shimmer of Angels, as a young girl struggles with identity, secrets and confronting her greatest fears. A Shimmer of Angels is a wonderful read for anyone who has ever felt like an outsider, or perhaps has felt like giving up entirely. It touches on themes of suicide, ostracism and emotional pain. The author, personally exposed to suicide through the death of her beloved brother, will donate a percentage of sales of this novel to a local suicide prevention and outreach program in San Francisco, California.

Why I'm waiting for A Shimmer of Angels:

I am in awe with the cover. It looks shimmery and heavenly and it's just so fitting of the book. It sounds all kinds of awesome and wonderful. What's real and what's not? And I've been on an Angel themed book high lately, so this definitely is up on my list.
