Summary (from Goodreads):

When the principal announces that every senior must participate in a mandatory year-long Marriage Education program, Fiona Sheehan believes that her life can't get any worse. Then she marries her "husband": jerky jock Todd, whose cheerleader girlfriend, Amanda, has had it in for Fiona since day one of second grade. Even worse? Amanda is paired with Fiona's long-term crush, Gabe. At least Fiona is doing better than her best friend, Marcie, who is paired up with the very quiet, very mysterious Johnny Mercer.

Pranks, fights, misunderstandings, and reconciliations ensue in an almost Shakespearean comedy of errors about mistaken first impressions, convoluted coupling, and hidden crushes.

One should be enjoying life as a teenager, and high school should be a joyful phase in a teenager's life. But what if you were forced to get "married" and take care of a "family"? Very taxing and inconvenient, right? But what's worse is you don't have a choice but to do it because it's part of the school's curriculum! That's exactly what happened to Fiona when her school decided to have a Marriage Education program.

Fiona certainly is a smart girl, but she's a little bit self-absorbed. She only has one friend and the Marriage Education program isn't helping her out much when it comes to gaining friends, especially when resident mean girl, popular Amanda, is hot on her heels just because she was partnered with Amanda's hot boyfriend, Todd. She's ignoring the one guy who is interested to her, while trying her best to hate everyone because they're idiots, or so she thinks they are. But when Fiona got caught up with the very same people she doesn't like, she slowly realizes that maybe it was her who was wrong, and suddenly the world seems a bigger place.

This is one of those novels where you'll think of how great the chemistry is between the two main characters that you'll feel cheated when you find out that they don't end up together. I was so caught up with how hilarious and fun Todd and Fiona's love-hate treatment of each other was, the pranks, the witty exchanges, that it didn't occur to me that it would be possible for the two of them to just be friends. And good friends at that. I was blind sided with how Johnny, the gentle giant, seemed to have worked his way through Fiona even though he gets less time than Todd. It's one of those "he's so close in front of you that you can't see him" type of romance. Typical but still very romantic.

Kristin Walker's highly entertaining novel takes readers on a ride filled with laughs and amusement as it shows how hilarious, and sometimes strenuous relationships can be, especially when nothing is working out. What if you don't get to choose who you spend the rest of your life with? How will you make it work? It's some of the questions this novel raises, and I just love how funny but full of lessons at the same time.

Definitely recommended if you're up for some cheering up, as this book will make you laugh nonstop! It also shares a lesson or two about relationships with the various people around us, friends, family, classmates. Presented in a very easygoing way that will make the readers enjoy it so much!

  1. I've read this book a while back. And like you I was kinda hoping Todd and Fiona would hit it off romantically. Too bad they didn't but it was a fun book nonetheless. :)
