Review: His Eyes by Renee Carter

It's always good to follow up a scary, dystopian novel with a light, fluffy read, and His Eyes does the trick.

Summary:

Amy Turner's about to graduate from high school and all she wants is a job. Actually, all she wants is to find a way to pay for college. Amy certainly isn't looking for love when she answers an ad to baby-sit a boy-she just needs the cash. But the job has a catch: The boy is blind...and he's her age.

Tristan Edmund may be hot, but he doesn't want Amy's help. Or so he thinks. After being blinded in a horse show-jumping competition, Tristan spends his days in the dark, refusing to accept his disability. Much to his annoyance, Amy bursts into his life and drags him into the light. But just as the two begin to see something in each other, Tristan's beautiful ex-girlfriend shows up. Will the temptation be too much, or will Tristan choose the girl who really sees him?
Tristan was a talented equestrian. Successful in show jumping, he had a bright future ahead of him, until the accident that stole his eyesight and before that, his father's death. Now Tristan is blind, and refuses to cope with the fact that he can't see anymore. Aimee needs money for college, and finding a high paying job to save wasn't easy. Until she accepted the job to babysit. It's high paying, but there's a catch. She has to babysit a boy. And not just any boy. A boy her age. Blind. Tristan. And boy, was Aimee in for one heck of a job.

I was always skeptic reading books with less than 200 pages. It's rare to see authors who can wrap up a story neatly with few pages to work on, and Renee Carter does good use of all 196 pages.

It's wonderful to read how it's possible for someone to fall in love with another he can't even see. That's what happened to Tristan, and I've always been curious with "how" it's going to happen. Renee was able to write about how one even without eyesight can love, and it's what made me love this book. Tristan can be stubborn and unaccepting, even difficult, while Aimee, reluctant at first, finds herself helping Tristan, because that's just like her, nice to everyone.

Predictable, but very sweet, typical and very cliche, His Eyes is a novel which will make you giggle and laugh and sympathize with the characters. There are characters we can all relate to, crazy moms, strict dads, estranged older brothers, cute and fun little brothers and sister and raving lunatic ex-girlfriends, His Eyes has a little bit of everything.

I recommend this book if you want to read something cute and fun!

  1. Aww, this one sounds very cute! :) I'm kind of curious as to how a blind person falls in love as well, especially when he's seen his hot ex-girlfriend. I mean, I know it's possible and it happens, but I just want to see it in perspective. My TBR suffers so much because of you, darn you, Kai! :P

  2. It is cute! very! I don't know, but it's a bit more intense? There's a scene in the book where Tristan wanted to know what Aimee looked like, and that part when he ran his fingers through every detail of her face just made me squirm. Intense, I tell you!

Ah well, I increase people's TBR piles almost everyday, mostly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays though. XD
