Review: Angel Star by Jennifer Murgia

Finally, here's my second official review for Amaterasu. I had to re-read parts of the book this morning just so I can have a better understanding of the story, and it's delightful to read it over and over.

Title: Angel Star
Author: Jennifer Murgia
Pages: 251

Summary:

Seventeen-year-old Teagan McNeel falls for captivating Garreth Adams and soon discovers that her crush has an eight-point star etched into the palm of his right hand-the mark of an angel.

But where there is light, dark follows, and she and Garreth suddenly find themselves vulnerable to a dark angel's malicious plan that could threaten not only her life, but the lives of everyone she knows, and now, she is torn between one angel's sacrifice and another angel's vicious ambition.

This is a wonderfully written, angel-themed book. Kudos to Jennifer Murgia!

I have to admit, I had a lot of questions while I was reading this book. Most of them had been answered, and some I was hoping the sequel would, but either way, its a really delightful read.

I just never seem to get tired of reading about battles between Good and Evil.

There were times when I felt like the sweetness was too much between Teagan and Garreth, but I guess it was just how the author wanted to portray their relationship. It was special since Garreth is an angel, after all. Giving love and warmth to Teagan and, in the latter part of the story, Teagan giving it back, was part of the bond that connects them as a Human and Guardian Angel. Though I have to say their sweet moments made me smile from time to time.

I think it was necessary to draw out the story that much to allow Teagan's character to develop. The power she held helped her understand what she truly was. It made me sigh with relief when she finally realized that maybe it was her who needs to work something out with herself. That she wouldn't feel alone if only she gives others a chance to get close to her. I love that side of her that is honest, and I guess, that is the reason why she was given the power to draw out the "Truth".

My most favorite quote in the story is this:

"What price would anyone be willing to pay for the one they loved?

I knew, without a doubt, because it surrounds me each and every day.

Sacrifice.
"
What indeed? Garreth became earth-bound for Teagan. Teagan took her own life to rescue Garreth. Everything requires a sacrifice.

I was very surprised when the love-triangle angle appeared towards the end. But I should have seen it coming. Garreth fans, I am sorry, but I loved Hadrian's character more than I loved Garreth. It's not that he is shallow or simple, but I guess I love complicated antagonists more. For once, I am rooting for the villain to take the girl and sweep her off her feet. Hadrian is a force to reckon with, dark, intriguing and mysterious while Garreth is pure and gentle, and that's it. If there was more to his "I exist for Teagan" character, then I have to see it more. But I felt the strength of Hadrian's character throughout the story more prominently than Garreth's.

Hadrian and Garreth might be different as Night and Day, but you will not be able to resist the urge to fall in love with them.

Having said that, I am looking forward to Lemniscate. I'd like to see how Teagan would deal with her struggle between her light, Garreth, and Hadrian, with his darkness slowly making his way through Teagan's heart.

Rating: ★★★★★ : AWESOMENESS! MORE! MORE! - I can't believe such a book exists!
